Odisha’s brackish water lagoon the Chilika Lake is spread over the districts Puri, Khurda and Ganjam of the Indian state Odisha. It is located on the mouth of the river ‘Daya’ and covering an area of over 1,100 km2. Chilika Lake is the second largest coastal lagoon in the world and largest in India. This lake is famous around the globe because of its beauty, ecosystem, diverse range of plants and animals (Flora and fauna) and most importantly for the migratory birds those travel from long distance from Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal, Aral Sea and other remote parts of Russia, Kirghiz steppes of Mongolia, Central and Southeast Asia, Ladakh and Himalayas to spend winter.
